How insurance works at Unfold
Network Status
We're in-network with UHC/Optum and Aetna. For all other plans, we're out-of-network — but our insurance specialist submits claims on your behalf for reimbursement, at no extra cost to you.
Even if we’re labeled out-of-network by your plan, it’s not uncommon for insurance companies to cover 20–60% of out-of-network therapy costs. Many of our clients use out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed for a significant portion of our session fees.
As a free service, Unfold Psychology will submit insurance reimbursement on your behalf. In 2025, our insurance specialist helped clients recover over $54,000 in insurance reimbursements — and that doesn’t include superbill submissions. We can help you understand your benefits before you start, file submissions, advocate for your needs, and fight appeals.
All fees are prepaid by clients and collected within 24 hours of service. We provide superbills to make the reimbursement process easy, and our insurance specialist can submit claims to your insurer on your behalf — at no extra cost to you.

No cancellation fees if you reschedule within the week
Unlike 99% of other doctor's offices, we are empathetic to the reality that life changes rapidly. Kids forget, they get sick, sometimes they just don't feel like it. We do not think it is appropriate to penalize your family.
While we ask you to do everything you can to avoid missing sessions, we have NO CANCELLATION FEES OR PENALTIES for missing a session if you make the session up within the week.

How do I get my insurance company to reimburse me?
If you’re seeing us out-of-network, it’s not uncommon for your insurance company to cover between 20%–60% — sometimes 100%, depending on your plan. You’ll be provided with a superbill containing the applicable CPT codes, diagnosis, and specifics of your visit. As a courtesy, Unfold Psychology will submit insurance reimbursement on your behalf.
Why aren’t you in-network with more insurance plans?
We’re in-network with UHC/Optum and Aetna, and we’re always evaluating others. For many plans, though, we choose to stay out-of-network — because insurance companies often limit the degree and speed of care we can provide. Our priority is getting clients and their families the help they need, when they need it. Providers who are fully in-network often have long waitlists or no openings for new clients. Staying out-of-network with most plans lets us keep care timely and flexible, while our insurance specialist helps you recover as much as possible through your out-of-network benefits.
Can I use HSA or FSA-eligible pre-tax funds to pay my bills?
Yes. HSA/FSA dollars — a special dispensation through your insurance for any kind of health care — are highly encouraged. They are a terrific option that many insurance companies offer.

We are sensitive to the added stress involved in working with insurance companies, and we work with you and your insurance company to help you get the highest possible reimbursement rate possible.
